They are light weight and of adequate size for small hands without being a danger to the child. They can even be fun.... my daughter differentiates colors better! Young children like to play with. A bit soft but not distracting. depending on use, may be is it better to take 2 bags of balls if you want to make a pool of balls. my little Emma (17 months) has never wanted to let go.
